The Royal Society of Victoria has been an active and vital part of Melbourne's scientific heritage since 1854.

Membership is open to anyone interested in science and the promotion of science.

Located in the heart of Melbourne, the Society's Hall at 9 Victoria Street(entrance 8 La Trobe Street) is the venue for an interesting program of scientific lectures, symposia and events to promote the sciences to the Victoria and Australian community. The Royal Society of Victoria has "Gift Recipient Status" for taxation purposes. Donations to the Royal Society of Victoria are tax deductible.

1. THE BOOKS HAVE SOLD SO WELL A THIRD PRINTING HAS BEEN ORDERED "Burke & Wills The Scientific Legacy of the Victorian Exploring Expedition", (unpublished science of the expedition) was released by CSIRO Publishing in November 2011. The Society has now sold more than 230 copies and will sell out soon. Order this very special book at $59.95 (plus $9 postage and handling or by pick it up from the Society Office). 2. ROYAL SOCIETY OF VICTORIA COUNCIL ELECTION (3 POSITIONS FOR 2012 & 2013) Four nominations have been received for three (3) vacant positions on the Royal Society of Victoria Council. The Election Statements of candidates are displayed in the "Election" section of the "About the Society" webpage (see left hand menu).

3. ROYAL SOCIETY OF VICTORIA ANNUAL RESEARCH MEDAL (PHYSICAL SCIENCES) Nominations for the 2012 Royal Society of Victoria Research Medal in the Physical Sciences are now open. Nominations close at 31st March 2012 (See the Medals and Awards Page)

4. THESE 150 YEAR OLD DOCUMENTS ARE ALSO SELLING FAST (THEY RELATE TO THE SOCIETY OF 1860 AND BURKE AND WILLS). The initial 40 of the "Limited Editon" Release boxed sets of Society Proceedings from 1858-1864 (Original 150 year old Volumes) have sold (only 80 are available). These original 150 year old volumes of the Society's Proceedings containing many of the reports and planning of the Victorian burke and willsExploration (Burke and Wills) Committee, are being released in a presentation boxed set. These historical records are presented in a leather look box, each set is numbered and a Certificate of Authenticity and Provenance is included. Rare Royal Society publications available for purchase (see Proceedings Page on Menu)

The Royal Society of Victoria has available for sale origiinal copies of its Scientific Proceedings from the 1860's to 1940's. These historic scientific publications detail the early science and surveys of the then Colony of Victoria. They are in original condition of new books some 80 to 150 years old. Prices vary depending on rarity.
