Burke and Wills 150 Media Launch

On Sunday 16th August 2009 the Royal Society of Victoria held a media launch of the variety of activities planned to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Burke and Wills Expedition. Renowned actor, environmentalist and reconciliation activist Jack Thompson spoke eloquently on the environmental and historical issues and the contemporary connection to Burke and Wills.

One of the key projects described at the launch is an "environmental audit". Given the large amount of environmental science that resulted from the 1860 expedition (available from the diary notes and over 1000 plant samples) the Royal Society is proposing an environmental audit along the Burke and Wills Track to examine changed flora, fauna, land use, water resources, etc. after 150 years.
