The Royal Society of Victoria Research Medal
Council is pleased to announce the
2007 Research Medal for Scientific Research

Thursday 13th December 2007 at 7.00pm at The Society's Hall
RESEARCH MEDAL - 2008
On behalf of the President and Council of The Society, I am reminding you for nominations for The Royal Society of Victoria Medal for Scientific Research 2008 Category IV Physical Sciences -
Astronomy, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics.
Nominations should be in the hands of the Executive Officer, The Royal Society of Victoria, 9 Victoria Street, Melbourne 3000 before 31st March, 2008.
In its Centenary year (1959) The Royal Society of Victoria instituted a Medal for Scientific Research.
The Award consists of a Silver Medal, which will be awarded annually for scientific research in one of the following categories:
Category I: Biological Sciences (Non-Human)
- Agriculture, Biochemistry, Botany, Forestry, Animal and Plant Physiology, Zoology, and related non-human sciences;
Category II: Human Health or Medical Sciences (Human)
- Genetics, Immunology, Human Physiology, Human Anatomy, Pathology, Necrology, Epidemiology, Endocrinology, Radiology, Microbiology, Medical Parasitology, Nuclear Medicine, and related human sciences.
Category III: Earth Sciences
- Geology, Geochemistry, Geochronology, Geophysics, Planetary Physics, Meteorology, Oceanography, Physical Geography and related sciences;
Category IV: Physical Sciences
- Astronomy, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and related sciences.
The work shall be carried out in Australia (including its territories), or on Australia, with preference for work done in Victoria, or on Victoria.
Scientific Societies, Universities, CSIRO, and Members of The Royal Society of Victoria have the right to make nominations though the Council need not be limited by these nominations. No posthumous award will be made, and in any one year if no nominee of sufficient merit is presented, no award need be made. The person/s receiving the award may be required to address The Society, in which case expenses shall be allowed.
In order to assist the Selection Committee, The Society requires that each nominator supplies a written statement which summarises the significance of the research, and its breadth and quality. The onus is on the nominator to convince the Selection Committee of the worth of the nominee.
The same body of research work may not be nominated in consecutive years.
